Winchester Selectboard hears Solid Waste District negotiate fuel-surcharge cut; Conservation Commission closing set for Pauchaug Brook

Selectman Ben Kilanski, reporting as a member of the Solid Waste District Committee, told the Winchester Selectboard on Feb. 18 that the committee negotiated with MDS over pickup fuel charges. According to Kilanski, Bill Daniels of the Town of Richmond agreed with the committee’s request to reduce the fuel surcharge; MDS agreed to take $25 per load off the fuel charge (previously stated as $50), resulting in a total pickup fee of $325 per load.
Kilanski cautioned that if fuel prices rise the committee may need to revisit the surcharge with MDS. The board recorded the update but took no separate vote on the contract at the meeting.
Separately, Selectman Trevor Croteau, the Selectman representative to the Conservation Commission, announced the commission will finalize the closing on the Pauchaug Brook property off Manning Hill the next morning at 11 a.m. at Town Hall.
Other logistical notices at the meeting included a reminder about Meet the Candidates night March 1 and a Transfer Station switch to summer hours beginning March 8, when Thursday hours extend to 7 p.m.
