The Washington County Executive Committee approved a $250,000 general-fund transfer to support design and engineering for phase 1 (and planning for phase 2) of the county redevelopment corridor, and separately approved two brownfields assessment funding requests.
Presenter Will said the transfer would pay consultant costs for the redevelopment corridor and reconvening the task force on phase 2. Mister Dahl noted deferred capital projects at the UWMWC building (~$280,000) were expected to return to the general fund and could offset the request.
Community development planner George Frisch presented a phase 2 environmental site assessment (ESA) request for 333 East Washington Street (22 acres in the county redevelopment corridor). The committee approved a request not to exceed $40,000, with an allotted amount of $32,000, to sample recognized environmental conditions and perform soil testing.
Frisch also presented a funding request for the Schauer Arts Center for reimbursement of phase 1 ESA and a hazardous building-materials survey at the former WB Place Tannery in Hartford; the committee approved reimbursement (total request $38,100 with an allotted $30,480 after the 20% match). Staff noted that a phase 2 ESA would likely follow given the site’s historic tannery use.
All motions passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff will proceed with consultant contracts and return to the committee as needed for follow-up items.
