Commission approves Fire Station 4 renovation and project manager; sheriff reallocates positions and will accept credit cards

The Walton County Board of Commissioners approved a $1.606 million Project Link budget for Fire Station 4 to be funded with bond proceeds, hired Precision Planning to manage the project, approved sheriff's staffing reclassifications and authorized the sheriff's office to accept debit and credit card payments for public transactions.
The Walton County Board of Commissioners approved a Project Link budget of $1,606,001.57 to renovate Fire Station No. 4 and authorized hiring Precision Planning to manage design and construction within the approved budget. Finance staff said the work will be paid from bond funds and will not use general fund money.
"So no general fund money will be used," a finance staff member stated when presenting the Project Link total.
The commission also approved a sheriff's office request to reallocate positions: two positions originally assigned to E911 will be reclassified for Uniform Patrol and Court Services to fund two senior deputy posts and promote a captain/lieutenant classification. The sheriff's office said the change follows a staffing reevaluation and that dispatch services would not be reduced as a result.
In addition to staffing changes, the board approved an agreement to accept debit and credit card payments at the sheriff's office for services such as reports and open-records fees; cash will remain an option.
With capital work and administrative changes approved, the board moved on to appointments and other routine business.
