West Branch council accepts resignation of Councilperson Nicholas Goodweiler; appointment planned Aug. 19

The West Branch City Council accepted the resignation of Councilperson Nicholas Goodweiler at its Aug. 5 meeting.
Mayor Roger Laughlin and council members expressed regret and thanked Goodweiler for his service. The minutes state Goodweiler "will be moving from West Branch to be closer to his work." The council voted to accept the resignation on a motion by Jerry Sexton, seconded by Jodee Stoolman; the recorded vote was three in favor (Sexton, Stoolman, Mike Horihan), one opposed (Tom Dean) and Goodweiler abstaining. Mayor Laughlin said the council will appoint a replacement at the Aug. 19 meeting and directed the City Clerk to post the vacancy and prepare the appointment process.
The action was recorded as Resolution 2024-80. No formal applications or appointment candidates were presented at the Aug. 5 meeting; the item will return to the council agenda on Aug. 19.
