Select Board approves minutes and payroll, schedules Valley Road bid review

The Town of Washington Select Board met Jan. 29, 2026, at Town Hall and approved the minutes from its Jan. 22 meeting and authorized payroll and vendor checks for Jan. 30. Evan Caffrey moved to approve the Jan. 22 minutes; Sam White seconded and all voted in favor.
The board authorized payroll checks totaling $19,266.46 and vendor checks totaling $14,933.03 on Jan. 30, according to the meeting record.
Public Works Director Ed Thayer told the board he would bring construction bids for the Valley Road project to a Select Board review scheduled for Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m. He also said he will request estimates for a Fleet Maintenance Program and proposed a Touch-a-Truck event for Old Home Day. Thayer noted one remaining resident on Valley Road whose easement is outstanding.
Lieutenant Mark Dressel reported police department activity for the week, described ongoing alarm issues at the police station and said the insurance company’s estimate for a police cruiser is still pending. Fire Chief Shawn Atkins summarized Fire and Rescue activity, noted per-diem scheduling information had been circulated and said he will submit his annual report once his computer is working.
Visitor Nick Cashorali told the board he received his 91-A request and offered assistance to town departments on budget items.
Chair Gary Kendall moved to adjourn at 7:22 p.m.; Sam White seconded and the meeting was adjourned with all in favor.
The Select Board also reviewed a list of upcoming meetings and public hearings, including Planning Board (Feb. 2), Select Board meetings (day and evening on Feb. 5), the Washington School Board budget hearing (Feb. 9, snow date Feb. 12), the Town Budget Public Hearing (Feb. 11, snow date Feb. 13), and Town Meeting in March.
