The Northfield Select Board on June 16 approved payroll and vendor warrants and a slate of appointments, heard updates on grants and roadway projects, and directed staff to follow up with Eversource after residents reported more extensive tree trimming than expected.
The board voted to approve the 6/10/26 payroll warrant for $135,673.67 and the vendor warrant for $1,241,499.82, which included payments for the Pioneer Valley Regional School, sewer, state grants and Chapter 90 paving. The board also approved the minutes from its May 26 meeting.
Personnel actions approved included appointing Tara Miller as part‑time Assistant Town Clerk at $22.92 per hour starting July 20, 2026, and confirming Amanda Zellman as Recreation Summer Program Director, moving her from interim status. The board also voted to reimburse Loaves and Fishes $3,704.70 for emergency aid and approved a staff time‑off request.
On infrastructure, Superintendent Tom Walker reported paving plans for multiple streets and noted that Warwick Road bridge repairs are slated for grant funds, which could temporarily reduce traffic to a single lane. Town Administrator Andrea Llamas said the Small Bridge Grant engineering work and LEAP survey marking are in progress and that the town is listed to receive $173,125.93 in Winter Recovery Assistance Program (WRAP) funds distributed via the Chapter 90 formula.
Residents raised concerns about Eversource’s tree‑trimming practices. The board directed staff to seek specific trimming plans and improve communication with the utility. John Schuster described working directly with a contractor near his residence to reduce the impact of trimming.
The board made several committee appointments, including Larry Hansen to the Zoning Board of Appeals (term to Dec. 31, 2026), Cheryl Momaney to the Flag Committee (term to 2027) and Craig Hefner to the Conservation Commission (term to 2029). The meeting closed with recognitions for longtime firefighter and constable Fredd Fuller, who recently died, and thanks to first responders for work on a June 4 accident. The board adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
