The Marion County Council approved proceeding with a vendor bid to replace a 40-foot culvert on Main Street and concrete it in, with funding drawn from the county's special highway fund.
"We have a bid from the vendor for $20,850 to replace the culvert and concrete it in," Chair (speaker 4) told the council, adding that the work could take two to three days once scheduled. Council members discussed the condition of two sewer boxes and lids adjacent to the culvert and whether those replacements (estimated at $3,600) should be included now or deferred to future projects.
A motion to approve that portion of the bid was made and seconded; during the meeting the chair called the question and recorded the vote as "All in favor, Aye." The chair noted the special highway fund balance would be reduced by the work and that completing this repair likely means fewer other highway projects will be feasible this year.
What the vote did: staff were authorized to schedule and contract for the culvert work as described in the vendor bid; the council directed staff to notify the public once scheduling is confirmed.
