City introduces 2026 summer interns, highlights housing support and placements

City officials introduced the 2026 summer interns during the Mayor and Board Commissioners' study session, naming placements in legal services, the airport, public utilities, community development and the library.
Carla Webb, the city's human resources generalist, introduced the interns and thanked ERDA for hosting student dorms. "We had a wonderful selection of applicants and I think we chose the best ones," Webb said.
Osman Abdullah, the city's legal intern from the OU College of Law, said he came to the city hoping for "hands-on learning," adding that living at the dorms reduced a long commute from Norman. Wyatt Mahoney, a Northwestern political science major assigned to community development, said he wanted to learn more about zoning. Phoenix Bowling, an Oklahoma State environmental science student working in public utilities, said she hopes to gain field sampling and environmental compliance experience. Noah Perry, an Oklahoma State student placed with the airport, described seeking practical airport-management exposure. Shasta Shelight, a behavioral science graduate at NOC and library intern, said she hopes the role will help her start a nonprofit and run systems efficiently.
Officials encouraged the interns to keep city government on their radar for future employment. The commission praised staff for arranging placements and supporting students with housing and supervision.
The study session then moved on to legislative priorities and infrastructure items.
