Commissioners defer Safe Passage funding vote; SIRPC says county comprehensive-plan results expected in about a month

Safe Passage presented its annual request for county funding at the June 15 meeting. Commissioner Ryan Harison recused himself from the matter because he serves on Safe Passage’s board. Because Commissioner Jamie Peters was absent, the board did not vote and directed the applicant to return in two weeks when a full complement of commissioners can consider the request.
Separately, representatives from the Southern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (SIRPC) briefed commissioners on the Switzerland County comprehensive-plan process and said initial results should arrive within about a month. SIRPC officials said the county will need to establish a local oversight board that includes one county commissioner and one council member to help guide plan implementation.
No funding decision on Safe Passage was made at the meeting; commissioners indicated the item will be on the agenda for the next regular meeting when recusals and absences can be resolved.
