Springfield pursues McDaniels Marsh culvert repair; grant funding sought

Hansen said the project is not currently in the town's 2025 budget and that grants are being explored to cover costs. The Board asked about authority to apply for grant funds; Amy Lewis and Whit Smith agreed to explore different grant opportunities (one environmental grant and the Northern Border Regional Commission were named as possibilities), and Tamara will check whether the town has blanket authority to submit applications.
Chair Steve Dzubak and other Selectmen did not record a formal financing decision at the meeting; the item remains a proposal pending permitting, grant outcomes and budgeting. If grants are secured and permitting proceeds on the estimated timeline, Hansen said construction could be scheduled to coincide with the marsh drawdown to shorten in‑water work time.
