The Recreation Committee asked Selectmen for permission to host a beer garden during Old Home Day on July 19, and the Board said it will allow use of town property only if vendors assume liability and sign waivers.
Jen Roberts, speaking for the Recreation Committee, said she has been researching permitting and is awaiting product and participation details from breweries. "We would just be using town property for their event and would have to sign a liability waiver for the town," Selectman Steve Dzubak said, explaining his objection to exposing the town to liability; Amy Lewis said she agreed.
The Board did not adopt a final policy at the meeting. Instead the Recreation Committee will continue discussions with potential vendors and breweries about contract terms and liability requirements. The Board also noted a desire to keep the town insulated from responsibility if vendors sell alcohol on town property.
Separately, the Board discussed switching alarm communicators from phone to cellular service; members decided to seek pricing and a possible three-year contract from Consolidated before making a final decision.
