Lindenhurst resident urges town action on nightly fireworks

Julie Verga, a Lindenhurst resident, told the board she had a sustained problem with fireworks near Tremont Road and Sherbrooke beginning in mid-to-late May and continuing into September, sometimes as late as 1 a.m. “It starts like mid to, end of May. And it goes all the way into September...it goes till 11:30 or 12. And then occasionally at 01:00 in the morning, it wakes me up with the 2 loud explosions,” Verga said.
Supervisor Schaffer introduced Jorge Rosario and town investigators who monitor quality-of-life complaints and explained that investigators work varied hours, including overnight shifts, and can coordinate with the 1st Precinct. The supervisor said the town would introduce Verga to the investigator assigned to her area and provide contact information so she could submit reports; earlier complaints in nearby streets had led to police action.
The board did not take formal action at the meeting but provided an investigator contact pathway for follow-up and enforcement of local noise ordinances where applicable.
