Residents raise concern over industrial noise from Wisconsin Bench; police to follow up

Roxy Copas asked the City of Thorp Council on Nov. 10 for any new information or progress regarding noise from Wisconsin Bench in the Industrial Park. Mayor Richard Wnek told the council that "currently we have no enforceable ordinance dealing with decibel levels."
Police Chief Pries reported he had spoken with Nate Smith from Wisconsin Bench, and said Smith "indicated that they redirected the ventilation to the sky," which Chief Pries said he hopes will reduce the disturbance. Barb Pyle told the council the noise "is affecting everyone."
The exchange was raised during the pre-registered public comment period; no ordinance or enforcement action was proposed at the meeting. Chief Pries said he will follow up with Nate Smith at Wisconsin Bench to monitor whether the redirected ventilation reduces the noise.
The council did not take further formal action at the meeting. Any regulatory change (for example, adopting a decibel ordinance or other noise standard) would require a future agenda item and a formal ordinance vote.
