The Arkansas State Medical Board accepted a consent order Aug. 7 with Dr. Rodney McCarver to resolve concerns raised during an investigation of his chronic‑pain practice.
Under the order the board approved, Dr. McCarver must ensure patients’ opioid doses are tapered to 50 morphine milligram equivalents (MME) or less over six months, stop prescribing opioids in combination with carisoprodol (Soma) for the same patient, comply with pain‑management review committee recommendations, submit to periodic chart review and appear before the board on request. The order also requires payment of investigative costs associated with the inquiry.
McCarver’s attorney presented the agreement to the board as a negotiated resolution. Board members described the terms as intended to reduce patient risk while preserving a path for monitored practice. The board voted to accept the consent agreement on the record.
What’s next: Licensing staff will record the consent order, monitor the required tapering and chart reviews, and schedule the six‑month follow‑up appearance specified in the order.
