Arts Commission awards $2,000 to Warrensburg Community Band; student mural application tabled

At its May 18 meeting the Warrensburg Arts Commission approved a $2,000 Community Arts Grant to the Warrensburg Community Band, marking the band’s third application in three years and the final year of its eligibility under the grant guidelines.
Woods Prael moved to fund $2,000 of the band’s proposal; Sue Kraus seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Commissioners noted the band received $350 and $1,000 in prior cycles and stated that, per grant rules and past awards, the band will not be eligible for next year’s cycle.
The Commission also reviewed a mural application prepared by Warrensburg high‑school students but agreed to table the request because no permanent site has been identified. Jessica Venvertloh noted that until FY27 funds are encumbered the Commission cannot approve FY27 grants; Commissioners asked the applicant to provide site information and asked staff to confirm when FY27 funds are available.
The packet also included other routine business items; the Commission set its next meeting for June 15 at 5:00 p.m. at the Visitors Center and adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
