Box Butte County Zoning and Planning Commission discusses Comprehensive Plan update and housing chapter

The Box Butte County Zoning and Planning Commission met March 17, 2025, at the County Courthouse in Alliance. Chairperson Marilyn Lore called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. and confirmed the meeting complied with the Nebraska Open Meetings Act.
The commission, with Marilyn Lore (Chairperson), Trent Benzel (Vice Chairperson), Barbara Raben (Secretary), Jerry Underwood (Committee member) and Tonya Mayer (Committee member) listed as present, approved the meeting agenda and the minutes of the Feb. 24, 2025 meeting by voice vote. Tonya Mayer moved to accept the agenda, seconded by Trent Benzel; the minutes approval was moved by Trent Benzel and seconded by Tonya Mayer. Both motions were recorded as passing with "4 in favor and 0 opposed." Josh Foster and Rich Smith were noted as absent. Staff in attendance included Box Butte County Attorney Marissa Curtiss and Box Butte Zoning Administrator Michael Johnson.
Under Old Business the commission discussed an update to the county's Comprehensive Plan. The record shows the discussion covered survey results, a review of public outreach efforts and proposed changes to the Housing chapter. The minutes do not record a formal vote to adopt or amend the Comprehensive Plan; the update remained a discussion item on the agenda.
Before closing, a motion to adjourn was made by Trent Benzel and seconded by Tonya Mayer; the motion was recorded as carried unanimously and Chairperson Lore adjourned the meeting at 8:29 p.m.
