The Box Butte County Zoning and Planning Commission discussed a proposal on Nov. 25, 2024, to change its bylaws so that regular monthly meetings would move from the fourth Monday to the third Monday of each month to better coincide with the county commissioners’ monthly meetings. Chairperson Marilyn Lore called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at the County Courthouse in Alliance and confirmed a quorum of six voting members.
Vice Chairperson Trent Benzel and other commissioners approved the evening's routine business before the bylaw discussion. Commissioner Jerry Underwood moved to accept the agenda; Benzel seconded and the motion carried with a recorded vote of six in favor and zero opposed. Tonya Mayer moved to approve the minutes from the Oct. 28, 2024 meeting; Underwood seconded and the commission again voted 6–0 to approve the minutes.
The substantive item on the agenda was a discussion about adjusting the commission’s meeting date. According to the minutes, the proposed change would move the regular zoning meeting from the fourth Monday to the third Monday each month “to better coincide with Commissioner’s monthly meetings.” The minutes record the proposal as discussion only; they do not record a motion, vote, or any final action to adopt the bylaw amendment.
Staff in attendance included Mike Johnson, Box Butte Zoning Administrator; Marissa Curtiss, Box Butte County Attorney; and Michael Sautter, Box Butte County Commissioner. The minutes do not record additional details such as a proposed effective date for the change, whether the change would require county board approval, or any vote tally or formal referral for further consideration.
Commissioner Jerry Underwood moved to adjourn the meeting; Benzel seconded. The motion carried unanimously and Chairperson Lore adjourned the meeting at 7:51 p.m. The minutes list no further actions or scheduled follow-up on the bylaw proposal.
