The Walkersville Economic Development Commission met March 23 and took steps to finalize logistics for its spring pop-up, focusing on vendor layout, power needs, staffing and promotional materials. Chair said the pop-up opens at 10 a.m. and noted the first train departs at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m., and commissioners agreed to time any ribbon-cutting or ceremony to avoid the busiest train windows.
Commissioners agreed to post and distribute a vendor map and to email vendors their assigned spot numbers in advance. Members discussed allowing vendors comfortable leaving trailers overnight on the Friday before the event, with the town liaison (Chad Weddle) marking spaces, placing cones and trash cans; Chair said this arrangement would be unguarded and recommended a volunteer presence at set times to receive overnight drop-offs. On staffing, commissioners planned short, rotating shifts so no volunteer must staff the entire day.
Power for food trucks and live music was a recurring concern. Commissioners explored options including using building plugs near the ticket office, running power ports across the street, or streaming music from a Bluetooth speaker if the high school ensemble could not provide amplification. One commissioner cautioned against running temporary power across driveways without securing cable mats for safety.
On promotion and giveaways, the commission backed buying reusable bags (one-sided printing with the Walkersville seal and event/EDC branding) and discussed offering a vendor-logo placement for a fee. Chair said, "I think we've spent less than 500 of our whole budget so far," and members agreed reusable bags would reduce waste and promote the town. Staff were tasked to circulate bag design proofs, confirm the high school's availability for music by the end of next week, and post signage the week of the event. The commission adjourned after announcing its next meeting on April 27.
