Council introduced Ordinance 731 on June 24 to amend Chapter 112, Section 5 of the borough code by adding a $65 reinstatement fee for inactive or expired construction permits. Manager Burton said the change came at the construction official’s request after multiple permits sat open for years and were only revisited when a property sale approached.
The ordinance was introduced for first reading; the second reading and public hearing are scheduled for the July 8 regular council meeting. Council members who spoke said the fee is intended to encourage permit completion and to reduce administrative backlog related to long-dormant files.
