Commission adds school-area road work to long-term plan and approves stop-sign change

Tom Dummermuth, director of transportation for TASD, asked the Tomah Public Works Commission to complete Straw Street between Mark Avenue and the Superior Avenue frontage road to reduce congestion during school pick-up and drop-off times. The commission placed the proposal on its 5–10-year plan for budgeting and directed staff to ask TASD about possible funding contributions and to pursue grant opportunities.
The commission also approved a resident request to replace a yield sign with a stop sign at the intersection of East Monroe and East Avenue. Commissioner Dean Peterson moved the measure and Commissioner Kerwin Greeno seconded; the motion passed on an 'all ayes' vote.
Discussion included a proposed all-way stop at Jackson and Butts. The commission chose to research that intersection further and return with recommendations at next month’s meeting.
Placing Straw Street on the long-term plan does not commit funding; staff were asked to seek grant and district support before the project is programmed for a specific budget year.
