The City Council unanimously appointed Brian McDowell to the Board of Zoning Appeals at its meeting after the chair nominated him and council members moved to confirm the appointment.
The nomination followed an executive session in which the council said it had received legal advice and discussed contractual negotiations with the Lawrence Commissioner of Public Works; the council announced that no action was taken in that executive session. The chair introduced Mr. McDowell as a volunteer for the board and said he had been impressed by McDowell’s integrity, saying, “and it is, my honor to nominate him and ask for the confirmation of that nomination by city council.”
A motion to accept Mr. McDowell to the zoning committee was made and the chair recorded that the motion was moved by Council member Whitmire and seconded by Council member Miller. With no further discussion, the chair called the previous question and asked for the vote. The chair announced, “And you are unanimously appointed,” and declared the motion approved. Mr. McDowell acknowledged the appointment and thanked the council.
The meeting concluded with the chair noting that the only remaining item was a motion to adjourn.
