Town of Townsend accepts road bids; approves fireworks contract and small appropriations

At its April 9 meeting the Town of Townsend board accepted three bids for road work and approved several routine contract and appropriation items.
The board opened bids and accepted: Northeast Asphalt’s hot-mix asphalt pavement bid at $98,820 per mile and pulverizing at $7,750 per mile; Pitlik & Wick’s double-chip sealing at $47,800 per mile with ancillary services; and Struck & Irwin Paving’s microsurfacing bid at $42,240 per mile (for 0–1 miles). Supervisor Chuck DeMoulin moved to accept the bids; the motion passed (second by Supervisor Willie Evans).
The board also approved a $13,000 contract with 5-Star Fireworks, a $100 donation to the Little League, and $450 for Festival Committee insurance. Treasurer Beth Hartman presented a profit-and-loss budget-performance report and the board voted to pay all bills (motion by Evans).
In other service-related news, Fire Chief Herlache said the town acquired three automated external defibrillators (AEDs) through grants from the Pamperin Foundation and Friends of Townsend Fire and that Community Ambulance will provide training; he said a new fire truck is expected by the end of May. The board also reported thefts of decorative street signs and said it is rotating cameras to identify suspects and replacing sun-damaged signs.
