The Town of Townsend board voted on April 9 to call a special town meeting of electors to decide whether to approve construction of a 30-by-50-foot addition and renovations to the Townsend Town Hall.
Chairperson Monica Zeller moved to request the special meeting under Statute 60.12; the motion passed (second by Supervisor Willie Evans). Clerk Linda Ziegler said the special meeting is set for May 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the fire station and that voting will be by paper ballot for electors only.
During public comment, resident Roger Wight reiterated his opposition to holding public comment after business and asked that the May 4 vote present electors with a choice between addition/renovation or constructing a new building. The board approved calling the special meeting but did not change the ballot options on the record at the April 9 meeting.
The board scheduled a second informational meeting on the town-hall project for April 27 at 9:30 a.m.; no funding mechanism or final construction contract was approved on April 9.
