Voters at the Town of Townsend electors meeting approved a proposed addition and remodel of the town hall by a 109–63 margin, the town board reported May 14. The board said it will begin work on the project following the electors’ decision.
Chairperson Monica Zeller told the board the May 4 vote favored the addition 109–63, and the board listed the item as the next capital project it will pursue. No financing detail or timeline for construction was provided at the May 14 meeting.
The vote was later contested in public comment: resident Liz Bann said a non-resident had pointed out the public notice for the May 4 electors meeting did not meet statutory posting requirements and argued the vote “should be void.” Clerk Linda Ziegler responded she was confident the postings were correct, saying the agenda had been posted on May 3 at the Townsend Post Office, Townsend Town Hall, Laona State Bank (Townsend branch) and on the town website.
The board did not set a construction start date at the May 14 meeting; next steps described by the board were internal project planning and coordination with electors or future meetings if funding choices or contracts require additional elector approval.
