Tomahawk council clears minutes, approvals and community items; library board updates policies and grants

At its Jan. 7 meeting the council approved the Dec. 3 minutes, an operator license, a community bonfire permit, reviewed committee reports and received a Library Board update on computer policies and grant applications.
The Tomahawk Common Council approved several routine items and received committee and library updates at its Jan. 7 meeting.
Patricia Haskin moved to approve the Dec. 3, 2024 meeting minutes; Mike Loka seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The council also approved an operator license (motion by Mickey Loka, second by Will Garske) and unanimously approved a permit for the Friends of Lake Mohawksin bonfire set for Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 (motion by Will Garske, second by Mike Loka).
Street Leadsperson Nick Rosenmeier reported that the Board of Public Works reviewed a request from Tomahawk Main Street and the Historical Society to place a historical marker on the north boulevard at N Tomahawk and Wisconsin Avenue and to add a “Historical Main Street” sign beneath the Wisconsin Avenue street sign. The Health and Safety Committee reviewed the Peddlers and Solicitors ordinance for clarification, and the Finance Committee reported the items it considered were before council that evening.
Library Director Heidi O’Hare said the Library Board is reviewing computer sign-up policies, applied for a third-round ALA grant, and began weeding books for the year. Mayor Steven E. Taskay said he continues to receive calls from concerned citizens about fluoride. The council set its next regular meeting for Feb. 4, 2025 and adjourned at 5:59 p.m.
