Council approves one-year trial remote-control park at skating rink

Joel Hayes asked council for permission to create a remote-control (RC) park at the skating rink and described a plan to form a circular course by clearing dirt and maintaining the paths. He said the park would prohibit airborne RC vehicles and gasoline-powered models and that he would assume ongoing maintenance.
The Park and Rec Board recommended a one-year trial (May 1–Sept. 30, 10 a.m.–10 p.m.). Council approved the recommendation unanimously (M/M/S Lawcewicz, Rosemeyer). Council recorded that the operator would maintain the course and that Park and Rec will monitor the trial and report back.
The trial carries a one-year sunset and the council instructed staff to monitor compliance with the hours and equipment restrictions. The Park and Rec Board will return with findings at a future meeting to determine whether to continue or modify the program.
