The Simsbury Conservation Commission on July 7 approved application CC 26‑09, allowing the Simsbury Fire District (owner: Matthew Pierce) to demolish the existing burn/training structure at 251 Hot Meadow Street and construct a new 70‑by‑20‑foot fire training building in approximately the same location.
A commissioner moved that the commission find the project will not have a significant impact on wetland soils or watercourses and that soil‑and‑erosion controls be installed during construction; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff noted the project includes removal and repaving of existing asphalt in approximately the same footprint and that, as presented, no direct wetland, soil or watercourse impacts were expected. Commissioners asked about fencing, the adjacent parking lot and vegetated buffers to reduce runoff into the brook; staff confirmed runoff from the lot drains to the brook and discussed buffer planting as an option.
The approval will be carried out subject to standard erosion and sedimentation control conditions.
