Resident presses board for documents on teacher credits and alleges unexplained payments; community seeks clarity on coach rehire

Moss asked that the text of the memorandum of agreement in agenda item D1g be read so the public could hear what the Brentwood Teachers Association and the district had agreed. "I think it's important that we all hear exactly what the Brownwood Teachers Association is moving," he said, and requested the contract text be provided.
Moss also raised a separate question about district payroll transparency: "What is the legal pathway to pay a person over $220,000 a year, who is not teaching or supervisory, who is not a classified civil servant, and who is not a consultant?" He told the board he had received FOIL responses that did not include a resolution authorizing the acceptance of funds to pay the BTA president and said he had seen paychecks he could not account for in the minutes.
District staff and board representatives responded that any payments to an employee would be contractual and that collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) typically govern such arrangements. A board representative said the CBA would be responsive to a records request for a contract and offered to provide copies. Moss said he had not received sufficient documentation and pushed for clarity about who authorized any such payments.
Separately, parents and community members raised concerns about basketball coach Jimenez after reports about his employment status. Speakers said the coach has served the district for roughly 30 years and asked whether he could be retained as head coach. District staff said the coach is retiring from his guidance position and that the Teachers'Retirement System (TRS) guidance about rehire timing (reports ranged from one day to six months) is being clarified to avoid jeopardizing pensions; staff said postings and application processes are moving forward.
