Surry Selectboard processes payroll, reviews permits and discusses Mine Ledge lot; fire equipment payment due under grant timeline

The Surry Selectboard met Sept. 9, 2024, beginning at 7 p.m. and handled routine town business including payroll, building-permit administration and infrastructure follow-up.
The board met with Matt Goodwin about a building permit he submitted. The selectboard recorded that the permit itself has been processed but noted the project remains contingent on a separate driveway permit, which must circulate to the Planning Board and the Conservation Committee for comments before further action.
The Planning Board left a subdivision plan from The Tree Agents of Epping, N.H., for property on Joslin Road; the document was placed in the Selectman’s office with instructions to forward it to the Zoning Board of Adjustment for its review.
Nancy Callendar received a previously approved building permit in person, the clerk recorded. Separately, the board asked Frank Lucius Construction for a quote to repair a culvert on Lower Pond Road as the town seeks contractor estimates for the work.
Board members discussed a parcel on the Class VI portion of Mine Ledge Road, at the Farm Road end, which is currently listed for sale. The board said several people have inquired about purchasing it as a building lot, but the town does not recognize the parcel as buildable; the board described the extensive steps a property owner would have to complete to obtain that classification.
The board reviewed the Davis building project on Route 12. Officials noted the septic layout has been changed; new plans have not yet been submitted for the board’s review.
Treasurer John Berglund reviewed deposits from the town clerk and discussed new equipment the Fire Department has on order. Berglund told the board the town must issue payment within the timeframe specified by the grant funding that supports the purchase, or risk jeopardizing grant conditions.
The clerk responded to an email about a proposed solar installation on Pond Road, noting inspections will occur at final completion, and also replied to an inquiry about an abutters list related to permit processing.
The meeting concluded at 9 p.m. Board follow-ups include circulating the driveway permit to the Planning Board and Conservation Committee, obtaining the culvert-repair quote, and awaiting revised plans for the Route 12 septic work.
