Tamworth Road Study Committee approves reports, adds Red Gate Path layouts and orders mapping fixes

TAMWORTH — The Tamworth Road Study Committee met June 4, 2025, accepted the minutes of May 7, and approved a slate of routine and revised road reports while flagging a few items for follow-up.
The committee called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. and recorded members David Little, Paul King, Willie Farnum, David Halpin and Chris Conrod as present. The body read an Abenake land acknowledgment at the start of the session and adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
Committee members accepted the May reports and several revised reports as presented. Secretary Chris Conrod listed May approvals that included Sanger Lot, Irene's Way, Osgood Road, Cleveland Hill Road and others. Mill Hill Road was recorded as “Disc – OK (for now; it’s still contentious),” signaling conditional acceptance but continuing disagreement among members.
The committee directed several specific mapping and report edits. For Great Hill Road (classified as Class V) it instructed using the town date tag for the county layout and referencing county records in the report. For Paugus Road Class V members asked staff to replace two references to “the concrete house” with the actual street address to clarify the mapping.
Paul King reported the northeast section of Red Gate Path has two historic layouts: an 1836 layout that corresponds to the present-day path and an 1812 layout that intersected Chocorua Lake Road farther west. Members agreed to add both layout options to the final report for the public hearing and final product.
David Halpin said Mary Cronin is available Wednesdays at the library to help post the final report online; Halpin also checked for annotated copies of the 1922–23 town report. King noted he had received no response to his post on the Tamworth Exchange.
The committee scheduled a public hearing as part of producing the final product and set its next meeting for Sept. 3, 2025. The minutes were submitted by Chris Conrod, Road Committee Secretary.
What’s next: the committee will incorporate the mapping edits and Red Gate Path layouts into the final report and prepare for the public hearing; members reconvene Sept. 3, 2025.
