Stratford says it is eligible for FEMA relief after July storm; identifies candidate roads for repair

Stratford staff reported Aug. 26 that the town has become eligible for FEMA relief funds for damage from the July 9 storm, and town officials identified several roads that could qualify for funded repairs.
"The Town has become eligible for FEMA relief funds," Suzanne Goulet said, adding that she and Select Board member Clayton Macdonald will attend a FEMA informational meeting on Aug. 28 to learn next steps and application requirements. She listed Old Mill, McMann, Bordeau, Farnsworth and Bog roads as routes with storm damage that might qualify for assistance.
The board discussed the specific types of work that FEMA typically funds and the documentation the town must collect to support any claim. Goulet also summarized results from a recent public hearing and a resident survey on annual road maintenance options, noting cost and revenue trade-offs. The board scheduled a dedicated roads workshop for Sept. 16 to review alternatives and prepare any funding or warrant language.
Macdonald reminded members that the town must complete a lead service line inventory by Oct. 13, an administrative deadline that could affect planning for utility- and road-related repairs.
