Administrator Ron presented the board with a progress update on the county strategic plan and related budget work. He said sample survey questions are included in the plan's appendix and proposed a short, anonymous survey for board members and department heads that would be vetted at Executive & Finance before wider use.
Ron reminded supervisors that the strategic plan anticipates a budget memo in July and said some goals already are in progress. He flagged tasks that may require more detailed fiscal analysis and suggested financial staff or an analyst may prepare the memo with department input.
On public‑safety staffing, Ron said the county accepted a PSAP grant to support separation of jail dispatch and that the budget team recommended filling two sheriff correction‑officer positions that were approved in a prior resolution. Ron said the grant required a local match that had been planned in the budget rather than that the county had taken a traditional loan: "It was through a grant, but we had to have a match," he said. He said the positions would be added to next year's budget timeline and that the equipment and space are in place.
The board did not take a separate vote on the staffing timetable at the meeting but was told that the positions are budgeted and that the county will proceed with planned implementation steps.
What’s next: Ron will prepare the survey for Exec & Finance review, and departments will provide budget inputs by July so the board and staff can finalize the budget memo and staffing plan.
