The Shell Lake City Council voted unanimously May 11 to hire Patrick Kraetke as the city’s part‑time chief of police, effective May 12, 2026, contingent on a background check and subject to a 12‑month probationary period.
The hiring motion, made by Councilmember Stephen Smith and seconded by Mike Andrews, carried on a unanimous roll call. City Administrator Andrew Eiche administered Kraetke’s oath of office at the meeting.
Mayor Rowie Hansberger presented administrative reports and acknowledged the personnel action during the council’s regular session. The order of business placed the personnel appointment among other routine approvals including committee minutes and administrative items.
