Canaan Fire Commission approves minutes and receives treasurer’s report; budget sent to Selectman with no increase

At its March 11 meeting the Town of Canaan Fire Commission approved the February minutes, received the treasurer’s report and discussed infrastructure and operational items including planned dredging support for the 126 Fire Pond, upcoming inspections at Gowans Knight, and several community events; the proposed budget was submitted with no increase.
Chairman Dave Seney called the Town of Canaan Fire Commission to order at 5:04 p.m. on March 11, 2026, at the Falls Village Volunteer Fire Department firehouse. Committee member Larry Bulson moved to approve the minutes of the February 11, 2026 regular meeting; Seney seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Chairman Dave Seney moved to receive the treasurer’s report; Bulson seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Commissioners noted that no bills were presented for approval at this meeting. Correspondence included notice that the Fire Department’s capital plan will be submitted to the commission at its next meeting.
Under old business commissioners discussed several nonworking hydrants that remain to be removed from service. The commission reported that the new owners of the property containing the 126 Fire Pond “are all in favor of the dredging,” a position attributed in the minutes to Steve Dean.
New business covered scheduling and operational items. Commissioners noted that NASCAR plans to return to Lime Rock next year, coinciding with the Jacobs Car Show; an ambulance is scheduled to be at the area in September 2026; and the department will assist with the town’s 250 Celebration. The commission agreed it is time to schedule the department’s trucks for annual inspections at Gowans Knight, and that employee physicals will begin in April. The Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) meeting was set for May 28, 2026, at the Senior Center. The proposed budget was sent to the Selectman with no increase.
Secretary Hazel K. McGuire moved to adjourn; Larry Bulson seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 5:25 p.m. The minutes were submitted by Secretary Hazel K. McGuire.
