Canton council approves Canton Day Off street closures, permits and a fire department appointment

The Canton City Council on June 10 approved a package of event permissions and an appointment related to the August Canton Day Off celebration.
Council approved temporary closures for Veterans Drive (Aug. 13–16), portions of Canton Avenue and Ash Street for a barbecue event (Aug. 14–15), Main Street between Canton and Prairie avenues for a pop-up market (Aug. 15, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.) and Main Street between Prairie and Fillmore avenues for a car show (Aug. 16, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.). The motion to approve the temporary closures was made by Jason Magnuson and seconded by Jeremy Hanson; the motion carried.
Council also approved Resolution 2026-11 granting an off-site gambling permit to Canton American Legion Post 400 (motion by George Hafner, seconded by Jen Dowling) and approved a temporary liquor license application for the Canton Fire Relief Association for Aug. 14–16 (motion by Jen Dowling, seconded by George Hafner); both motions carried.
Separately, the council approved the appointment of Mason Yoder to the Canton Fire Department (motion by George Hafner, seconded by Jen Dowling). The minutes do not record conditions attached to the appointment or the effective start date.
