Council adopts parks master plan after park board and public survey

The Mexico City Council voted to adopt the Parks and Recreation Master Plan (Bill No. 2026-02) after a presentation to council on Jan. 26.
Chad Hunter, who spoke to the council about the process, said the plan (Phase 1) was produced after a year-long effort and included input from 623 survey respondents. "We had 623 people complete the survey," Hunter said, and the park board adopted the document in January.
Councilmember (speaker3) moved to read the bill and to adopt the resolution prepared by SWT Design. The motion was seconded and members recorded their votes to approve the resolution. Council discussion focused on the plan’s phased approach and on the park board’s prior adoption; no amendments to the resolution were made at the meeting.
Outcome: The council approved Resolution No. 2026-02 adopting the parks master plan. Staff said the master plan will serve as a guide for phased investments in parks and recreation facilities and will be available to inform future budgeting and grant applications.
Next steps: Staff will provide the council with the full master-plan document (distributed digitally) and will coordinate implementation steps and any required budget proposals.
