Road committee seeks bigger non-lapsing fund; cemetery trustees ask for infrastructure article

Roads, capital reserve funds and cemetery infrastructure were prominent topics at the Feb. 3 budget hearing.
Roads and highway: Road Agent Doug Glover told the board his 2025 highway budget reflects a 3% wage increase, adjustments for leave buyouts and overtime, and sharply higher costs for steel and tires. Some road materials must now be hauled farther, increasing per-job costs. Carl Martland, speaking for the road committee, described the committee’s work and asked the town to increase the non-lapsing highway deposit by $50,000 to $125,000 so the highway department can continue upgrades and maintenance.
CRF and truck sale proposals: The board proposed returning proceeds from the sale of the old Building & Grounds truck to the Building & Grounds CRF and restoring funds expended from the Bridge CRF (for Crane Hill and Indian Brooks work) back to those CRFs from the fund balance.
Cemetery funding: Kathy Jablonski, on behalf of the Cemetery Trustees, outlined work at Streeter Cemetery (locating graves) and fence repairs at Sunnyside and proposed a warrant article with interest offsets and $19,544 from taxation to cover the balance. She said that if the warrant article fails, trustees will ask to create a Cemetery Infrastructure CRF with $6,500 requested this year.
The board did not take formal votes on these CRF allocations or the non-lapsing increase during the hearing; these items will move forward as warrant-article proposals.
