Stratford staff seek buzzer at town offices after staff report harassing calls and delayed trooper response

Maryann Lister, a town staff member, told the Selectboard that an incident at the town offices on Oct. 19 has prompted a series of threatening and harassing phone calls and an allegedly misleading video posted to YouTube. "The phones have been non-stop and threatening and harassing in nature," Lister said, adding that staff "did in fact call for help with the state troopers whom took over an hour to get to us." The meeting transcript records 26 voicemails related to the incident.
Lister asked the board to approve installing a buzzer at Fuller Town Hall so staff can screen visitors before granting entry. Selectboard members agreed to obtain cost estimates and return the item to the agenda at the next meeting for a decision.
Lister also relayed a recommendation from the tax collector about safety when selectmen visit properties taken by lien: the selectmen should be accompanied by a sheriff to reduce the risk of confrontations. The board agreed to continue discussion of that guidance at the next meeting.
The board did not make a final decision on installing a buzzer during the Oct. 21 session; the next step recorded in the meeting minutes is to collect estimates and review them at a subsequent meeting.
