Charlotte Lafever and others expressed alarm about an Erica Kirk / Turning Point USA event scheduled for July 24 at the church site and asked the city for a coordinated safety plan because social media shows counter‑protester organization and substantial turnout. Lafever asked city staff to review event security and crowd‑safety plans; Susan Davis asked for a neighborhood notification and police outreach to better prepare residents.
Separately, public commenters David Malcolm and Chris Fox urged the council and staff to address e‑bike safety for children. Malcolm cited national ER visit statistics and urged stricter age or classification limits; Fox, an attorney and longtime resident, described personal trauma from a bicycle collision and urged the council to place e‑bike safety on a legislative agenda—education in schools, clearer rules for trails and parks, and empowerment of enforcement.
Council response: the mayor acknowledged receipt of emails and testimony and asked staff and the police chief to update council on code‑enforcement options and what the police could do to prepare for protests and enforce neighborhood protections.
