The Greenwood Board of Aldermen on Jan. 28 approved a series of routine but consequential actions, including declaring surplus public‑works equipment, reappointing a planning commissioner and finalizing an appointment to the city administration.
The board passed Resolution 2026‑02 declaring a John Deere riding mower surplus and Resolution 2026‑03 declaring a snow/salt spreader surplus, citing ongoing maintenance costs. Members agreed the equipment has been costly to maintain and supported disposal.
The board also passed Resolution 2026‑04 to reappoint Marsha McKinney to the Greenwood Planning Commission. Members praised McKinney’s contributions to the Greenwood 2035 planning process and said they expect her to continue bringing research and recommendations to the commission’s future work.
On ordinance business, the board conducted first and second readings of Ordinance 2026‑3139 to appoint Aaron Thomas as assistant city administrator and city clerk. The ordinance passed; Stephen Morrison administered the oath and Aaron Thomas was sworn in, effective Jan. 27, 2026. Aaron introduced family members briefly at the meeting.
Staff reported the results of bids for the city’s 4th‑of‑July fireworks stand: Carter Investments submitted a flat fee bid (reported as $31,250 plus 1.75% pretax gross sales) and Silent Salute Fireworks (Megan Long) offered 20% of pretax gross sales and a multiyear option. Staff recommended Carter Investments and said a resolution awarding the bid will be on the next meeting agenda.
Ending: The board adopted the routine resolutions and appointment, received procurement updates on the fireworks stand, and moved to discuss other departmental reports before adjourning into closed session.
