Superintendent says civic center transfer and land exchange will benefit students' fine-arts programs

"The discussion reflected a shared commitment to collaboration and responsible stewardship, and this agreement will provide meaningful long term benefits for both our students and the broader Oconee County community," Dr. Butler said, adding that the change would create opportunities for a more equitable daily learning environment for fine-arts programs at Oconee County High School and K–8 feeder schools.
Operations staff later confirmed the board had approved an intergovernmental agreement earlier in the day; district staff will begin transition work covering operational and technology integration, rental processes and future student use of the civic center. The operations report said additional updates will be provided as those implementation details are finalized.
The board did not record further formal actions on the civic center during the July 6 meeting; officials said specifics about the transfer, timeline and any contractual terms would be determined during the transition process and reported in future updates.
