North Oconee students showcase band and artwork at July 6 BOE meeting

Scott Smith, the band director at North Oconee High School, told the Oconee County Board of Education on July 6 that the Titan Regiment includes about 180 marching members and maintains multiple concert ensembles and a jazz band.
“My name is Scott Smith. I’m the band director at North Oconee,” Smith said, describing recent appearances including the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., and a parade at Universal Studios. He credited student leaders for running section camps and supporting new members.
Four students spoke about the program and its traditions. Emma Lemire described band camp as a two-week intensive that builds friendships and prepares the halftime show. Holton Lamons and Mahan Bashir highlighted halftime performances, competitions and community appearances such as the Watkinsville Christmas parade. A student who identified themselves as Ashton York summarized the band’s recent march at Universal Studios as a memorable experience that built camaraderie.
The board also recognized artwork by North Oconee students and art teacher Kathy Warren, whose students earned an All-State Art Symposium recognition and a 100% AP art exam pass rate this year. The artwork will be displayed at the ISC for the month.
After the presentation, the board posed for a group photo and moved on to regular business.
