Surry selectmen advance culvert scoping, floodplain survey and town facility updates

At the Aug. 5 meeting Surry’s selectmen discussed several infrastructure and town‑facility items and assigned follow-up tasks.
Selectman Jay Croteau said he will meet with Mike Edwards to scope a culvert project and will contact an engineer about building a culvert coffer; a nearby contractor, Dave Brooks, declined to bid. The board also agreed to ask Bruce Smith to complete a floodplain survey to support project planning. Separately, selectmen recorded that the Old Walpole culvert is not yet completed and remains on the follow-up list.
On town facilities, the town-hall heating system has been installed and the old equipment removed by L & G Propane; Rymes collected the propane tanks from the library. The septic at the highway garage has been completed, and Zak Payne has started construction of the highway bathroom. Ron Profaizer reported ongoing work on Wi‑Fi and printers and is coordinating with Kim Fisher of the Recreation Department to implement townwide email distribution. The board also discussed the Highway Block Grant and noted that Complete Streets notification was not pursued.
The selectmen took these as direction and administrative updates; no new binding contract awards or formal vote tallies beyond routine procedural agreement were recorded in the minutes. The board scheduled additional scoping and engineering contacts to advance the culvert and floodplain work.
