Public Works lays out broad capital needs; parks/rec proposes programming and hot-funds requests

Public Works Director David detailed fleet and equipment needs, lift-station and wastewater improvements and an engineering estimate for a dewatering system that had previously been estimated at about $3.1 million. David described immediate needs—pickup trucks, a crane truck for lift-station service, a hot-mix recycler for longer-lasting street repairs—and said some items might be eligible for bond funding or grant assistance.
"This would actually dewater instantly... it would literally squeeze the water out instantaneously and within a matter of minutes," David said about the dewatering equipment, explaining how the change would reduce hauling and repeated costs. He also identified security-camera upgrades for the transfer station and a mechanized lift/tractor replacement.
Parks director Malik outlined programming proposals that include a $50,000 hot-funds request for Civic Center and Parks events to promote tourism, a reorganization of pool staffing to save costs while raising pay for head lifeguards, and potential development of an athletic/rec complex on underused public land. Council encouraged staff to explore MDD and grant funding for certain projects and to provide prioritized capital lists and procurement quotes.
