Cecilton plans Aug. 8 'Make a Difference Day'; council agrees to small additional town support

Council member Charles Ringgold described plans for Make a Difference Day on Saturday, Aug. 8, planned for roughly 1–4 (to 5) p.m. He proposed a 70‑foot inflatable obstacle (a moon bounce) and said the vendor balance would be $375 after a deposit had been paid. The town had provided the $100 deposit and historically donated $200 in past years; the council agreed to provide the additional $100 to cover the moon bounce balance.
Mayor Joseph A. Zang III and Attorney Yeager raised concerns about COVID‑19 and asked that advertising recommend masks and social distancing; the mayor said he would confirm event protocol with the vendor. Member Danielle Zack and others asked about cleaning procedures for the inflatable. Fire Chief Reamy offered that the fire department could provide hand sanitizer for the event.
Ringgold said the event is open to all with no fee; County Council President Bob Meffley offered to announce the event at his council meeting. Ringgold also said the event will help launch a "Praise in the Park" Sunday series and will include family activities such as a cardio obstacle course, water games, snow cones, and distribution of dog tags. He asked about a youth entry point into the fire department; Chief Reamy said paperwork could be available and that age 14 is the usual starting age for the program.
Council members agreed to include language on printed flyers that masks are recommended and social distancing is required; hand sanitizer will be provided. The council recorded no formal vote specifically authorizing the contribution but confirmed the town would provide the additional $100 toward the moon bounce.
