The Taylor County School Board approved the reappointment of 12‑month administrative personnel for 2026–27 and confirmed several assistant-principal hires, but the actions followed extended discussion about one candidate's missing certification paperwork and broader questions about administrative staffing levels.
During consideration of Item 12.05, a board member flagged that one recommended site administrator lacked completed certification paperwork because of a technical account/password issue with the state's system. Board members debated whether to pull that individual from the slate pending completion of certification or to approve the appointment conditionally. One board member moved to pull the item and bring it back after paperwork was completed; that motion failed. Another board member then moved to approve the appointment tonight, conditional on the certification being renewed by the June 30 deadline; that conditional approval passed, with one board member recorded in opposition.
Separately, the board approved assistant-principal appointments that were read into the record: Justin Walker as assistant principal at Hill County Elementary School (effective July 28, 2026); an appointment to Keller County Middle School; Jerry Webb as an assistant principal at Keller County High School; and an appointment listed in the agenda as "Kaken Trail" at Teller County primary school. Several members registered nay votes on some of those appointments and asked for the record to reflect concerns about district enrollment trends and the fiscal impact of adding administrative positions.
The superintendent (speakers defending staffing decisions) said staffing allocations were reviewed and that some reclassifications (from dean to assistant principal) could reduce salary costs in specific instances; he and other administrators also noted ongoing work to manage staffing allocations and a 13.3% fund balance that staff said reflected conservative financial management.
What happens next: the conditional approval will be finalized when the candidate's certification paperwork is complete; staff will proceed with onboarding the appointed principals and assistant principals with the noted effective dates.
