Cheverly schedules public meeting with developer for 5801 Annapolis Road project

The town of Cheverly will host a public meeting on Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. for a development proposed at 5801 Annapolis Road, Mayor Micah Watson said, inviting nearby unincorporated neighbors and the town of Bladensburg to participate.

Town staff and council members met with the developer, identified in the meeting as Dr. Harry Singh. The town administrator described the developer’s current concept as “roughly 30 townhouses or townhouses in the number of the low thirties.”

Council members and residents at the meeting raised concerns about trust and transparency, the site’s tidiness, and the need for robust community engagement with surrounding municipalities. “He seemed receptive, but we still have a long way to go regarding that,” Council Member Wade said about the developer.

Mayor Watson said the town will likely request a written set of the council’s top concerns to submit as part of the preliminary‑plan comment process and discussed holding a special listening session on March 5 if the council needs to produce comments quickly.

The mayor also noted the town is keeping the Hospital Hill/ Cheverly Hill developer and relevant county agencies informed because the properties are proximate and that county agencies may participate in the Feb. 26 meeting.

Residents asked for more outreach to directly affected neighbors and for the town to clarify how ingress and egress would be handled; town officials said the developer envisions access from the hotel driveway and from 57th Avenue rather than directly onto Annapolis Road.

The Feb. 26 meeting will be held in the town building at 6:30 p.m. and will include a presentation by the developer followed by public comment; the council said it will send logistics and an invitation to neighbors and neighboring jurisdictions.
