Sudbury Design Review Board conditionally approves YogaSix signage, requires revised area measurements

The Sudbury Design Review Board voted 3-0 on June 24 to conditionally approve signage for a new YogaSix tenant at 515A Boston Post Road, but required the applicant to resubmit a revised sign drawing and area calculation to show the primary sign meets town rules.

Susan Vollaro, chair of the Sudbury Design Review Board, said the proposal included five signs: a primary internally lit storefront sign proposed at 24.8 square feet, a two-sided projecting sign, two vinyl panels on existing monument signs, and vinyl graphics for the storefront doors and windows. Vollaro noted the town bylaw allows a maximum sign face area of 16.5 square feet and asked the applicant to measure the primary sign using Section 3261.c’s methodology by dividing the artwork into the Y6 logo and the YOGASIX lettering and combining those areas to confirm compliance.

Amy Murray, representing AG Sign and Graphics Company and speaking for the applicant, summarized the five-sign application and agreed to re-measure and resize the primary sign as needed. The board also asked the applicant to include a dimension for the space between the logo and the letters in the revised drawing.

Board members agreed the proposed two-sided projecting sign should be counted as a single secondary sign for measurement purposes; when combined with a properly measured two-segment primary sign the total would conform to the 16.5 square-foot limit. The board recorded no comments on the two proposed monument signs. The board reminded the applicant that any vinyl on doors or windows must not exceed 25 percent of the glass area.

Vollaro suggested adding a black border to improve contrast against the light-colored sign band; Murray said she believed the sign already included a black border but would confirm with the owner. Scott Utke recommended placing the company logo on only one of the two front doors and designating the other as the entry/exit door.

Vollaro moved to approve the application on the condition that the primary sign be divided into two measured segments whose combined area does not exceed 16.5 square feet and that the projecting sign be counted as one sign; Utke seconded. The motion passed unanimously, Vollaro-aye, Pang-aye, Utke-aye. The board told the applicant it was not necessary to return in person but required the revised drawing and area calculation be submitted to the town for the record.

Separately, the board approved the minutes from its June 10, 2026 meeting by a 3-0 vote. The Design Review Board adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
