Executive director outlines downtown construction progress, Veterans Park renderings and Presidium 3 update

The Executive Director opened the report by calling it “another busy month of construction in the city of Carmel,” and walked commissioners through images and progress at downtown project sites.
He pointed to active work at Monon Square North and a playground adjacent to that development, said Civic Square is “now selling condos,” and described ongoing work at Hamlin Crossing and the Republic headquarters hotel. He noted masonry work beginning at ICON (which he referred to as “ICON, Maine” in the presentation) and site work at the AT&T/Merchant’s Bank headquarters location.
The director also presented updated renderings for the planned Veterans Park, explaining that a waterfall feature is intentionally designed with a column for each military branch. He credited the Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation Department and volunteer contributors for the park’s progress.
He said the city council previously approved the Presidium 3 project (noting a 9-0 approval at council) and that the developer is preparing parcels for sale and site cleanup ahead of Carmel Fest. The director told commissioners staff will schedule a walk-through tour for commissioners, the board of zoning appeals and planning commission members.
When asked, he said apartments adjacent to Veterans Park will be constructed first so drainage that serves both the apartments and the park can be installed prior to park construction.
