Board approves human services travel and grant amendment to align funding period

The Stevens County Board approved two items for the county human services office: authorization for a staff member to attend the NOVA training conference in July and preliminary approval of a grant amendment that would extend the grant period and add $17,500 to cover a three‑month alignment.
Sami, the county witness coordinator, told the board the NOVA conference in Las Vegas would supply most of the credentialing hours needed for the National Advocacy Credentialing program. Sami said registration and lodging are the largest costs and that the training currently fits within the department’s budget. "The biggest cost out of it is the registration itself," Sami said, adding the county’s grant manager had reviewed and provisionally approved the request.
Sami also described a proposed grant amendment to align the grant cycle with the county fiscal year. Sami said the grantor proposed extending the contract through the end of the (stated) year and offering $17,500 to cover costs for the three‑month extension; she said the county had not yet received funds and that the grant manager must finalize paperwork. The board approved the travel request and voted to approve the amendment as presented, with staff to return with a budget revision once funds are awarded.
County officials noted the amendment process requires the grant manager’s approval and that final budget changes would be presented when the money is formally awarded. Sami said leftover funds, if any, could be used for training or county collaborative training events.
The motions were approved by voice vote. Staff will forward the amendment to the grant manager and return with detailed budget allocations after award.
